Mark F. Reeder graduated Summa Cum Laude from WVU in 1989 with a BSME degree. He completed his MSME at The Ohio State University in 1991 and the Ph.D. also from Ohio State in 1994.
From January 1995 through January 1996 Dr. Reeder worked at NASA Glenn in Cleveland as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate of the National Research Council. During this time he developed non-intrusive, laser-based diagnostics for assessing propulsion technology. In February of 1996, he was appointed Principal Research Engineer and Manager of R&D for Chemineer Incorporated in Dayton, Ohio. There he led the product development activities, managed the R&D budget and staff and collaborated with academic and industrial researchers in applied research. He held this position until August, 2002 when he joined the faculty at the Air Force Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor. In 2008 he was promoted to Associate Professor, and in October 2014 he was promoted to Full Professor.
Dr. Reeder teaches graduate aeronautical engineering courses in fluid flow, hypersonics, aircraft survivability, and the theory of gases among others. He has advised more than 30 MS students and 3 Ph.D. students and has served as Principal Investigator for more than $1M of externally funded research.
Dr. Reeder is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA, a licensed Professional Engineer, and a member of ASME. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Micro Air Vehicles. He also reviews articles for several high-quality archival journals, including Physics of Fluids. He has published 32 refereed journal articles and holds four U.S. patents.
