In 1957, Mr. Murphy joined North American Aviation as a research engineer on projects including aircraft and missile performance, weapons system analysis, and aircraft controls and sensors. From 1965 to 1975 he worked in management developing and prototyping weapons systems. In 1975 he became Chief Engineer, Missile Systems Division, Rockwell International, directing the design, development, and testing of high technology programs. In 1980, as Vice President and General Manager, he relocated the Division from Ohio to Georgia, directing the transition from engineering development to production, and doubling the business in a five-year period. In 1987 Mr. Murphy became Group Vice President, and then President, of the AAI Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland, supervising transition of much of the company from defense to non-defense activities. Mr. Murphy retired from AAI in 1993, and now lives in North Georgia.
